Are they easy to use? I have never used cam straps before.
Yes, once you know the action. It is a press-release buckle: press the side to release it, feed the strap through, then click it back into place. To loosen, press the side again, adjust, and reconnect.
The first use takes a moment to work out and it is straightforward from then on. Try not to release and reconnect more often than you need to, as repeated use wears the locking mechanism.
How strong are they?
The webbing has a tensile strength of 4,500 lbs. Note that tensile strength is the breaking point of the material, not a recommended working load — always follow your roof rack manufacturer's load limits, which are usually the lower figure.
Will they scratch my car or my board?
No — that is what the moulded silicone buckle cover is for. It sits over the metal buckle so nothing hard touches your roof, windows or board. The rounded strap ends make threading easier and stop them catching.
Is the silicone buckle cover removable?
Yes. It slides off if you would rather work the buckle directly, and back on when you want the paint protection.
Fifteen feet seems long for one board. Is that a problem?
It is deliberate, so one pair covers everything from a single shortboard to three SUPs. If you have a lot of excess, tie it off or trim it to length. Worth knowing before you buy that with a single board you will have slack to deal with.
Will they cause wind noise at highway speed?
Not normally. If you do get a hum, putting a single twist in the strap between the board and the rack stops the webbing vibrating and solves it.
How many boards can I secure with one pair?
The 2-pack handles a single board comfortably and will secure up to three stand-up paddleboards. For heavier or wider loads we would recommend rack pads underneath as well.
Can I use them for a kayak, canoe or paddleboard?
Yes. They are designed for roof-rack transport generally — surfboards, SUPs, kayaks and canoes — and suit passenger cars, SUVs, trucks and vans.
What are they made of?
Thirty-millimetre polyester webbing with a 36mm corrosion-resistant metal buckle under a removable moulded silicone cover. The buckles are bright blue on purpose — it makes the end of each strap easy to find in a crumpled heap in the back of the car or garage.
What comes in the box?
Two 15-foot tie-down straps, the silicone buckle covers, and a storage bag made from RPET, shipped in plastic-free Kraft cardboard packaging.
What is RPET?
RPET is recycled polyester, made from post-consumer plastic bottles. It gives the same strength and water resistance as new polyester while keeping plastic out of landfill.
Are the straps adjustable?
Yes — the buckle sets the length anywhere along the 15 feet, so you tighten to whatever your load needs rather than being fixed to set positions.
